What Do We Expect A Child To Learn When We Tell Him/Her: "Say Thank You To Your Friend"?

Is it possible that some of us feel resentful when needing to thank someone, share, or apologize, because as children we hated doing these things? Maybe we are dealing with our inability to trust. Is it possible that gratitude is not likely to be felt by a child or at least not in the way adults feel and express it?

Ways To Predict Your Baby's Gender

Ultrasound - high-frequency sound waves produces images of your baby while it is inside your uterus - is undeniably scientific and highly accurate. While not as romantic as twirling a wedding ring over your pregnant belly, it is the most likely method to give you information you can rely on. It is rare for ultrasound technicians to get the sex wrong - though it does happen - and the most likely reason for you not to find out the sex of your baby with the help of an ultrasound is if your baby is being 'shy' by keeping its legs crossed so that the technician (and mum and dad!) can't see whether there are dangly bits.

Postpartum Depression, How Do We Cope With This?

I had a difficult labor (30 hours ending in a c-section), followed by breastfeeding issues (my daughter had a tongue tie), and colic. It’s been tough. I say all this because I still feel the need to defend my postpartum anxiety.

Things You Should Know About Ceasarean Section

The Shaking
When the anesthesia kicks in, sometimes the violent shaking begins. It feels like fever chills, and if you don’t know what’s going on, it’s disconcerting. Plus, it’s frigid in the OR.
Pro Tip: Ask for blankets in the OR. They draped one over my top half during my second C-section, and after I’d been stitched up, I asked for more blankets.

This is only a small sampling of the tactless verbal diarrhea I’m privy to on a daily basis.
Granted, there may be a peculiar sadness that comes from longing for the daughter you don’t have. But I’m here to let you in on a little secret—how freakin’ fun it is to raise little boys.

Facts And Questions You Need To Know On Ectopic Pregnancy.

An ectopic pregnancy is any pregnancy that grows outside of the uterus (womb). In a normal pregnancy, the egg meets the sperm (is fertilized) in the Fallopian tube and the embryo (fertilized egg) travels through the tube to the uterus. Once there, the embryo implants (attaches) and grows into a baby. When an embryo starts attaching and begins to grow anywhere outside the uterus, it is called an ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy is not healthy and if it continues to grow, it can endanger the life of the pregnant woman. Early detection and treatment of an ectopic pregnancy are extremely important.

What Medication Is Safe To Take In Pregnancy?

Pregnancy can bring a lot unwelcome symptoms - headaches, nausea and vomiting, heartburn, back ache, constipation, piles... well, the list goes on.
The trouble is, as easily solved as these minor ailments are usually, it's not advisable to pop to the chemist or supermarket and buy yourself some relief over the counter. Various medications can potentially pose a risk to your unborn baby, so at this time, you have to be extra careful.

First Trimester Problems: When to Call Your Doctor

Watch for 7 warning signs of trouble with your early pregnancy.

You might be tempted to dismiss these signs if you don't realize they're clues to avoid bigger troubles. Knowing what to watch for helps you take care of yourself and the little one growing inside you. Any time you're concerned about what's going on or how you're feeling, it's OK to talk to your doctor.

1. Vaginal Bleeding

What it may mean: "Some spotting is normal, but heavy bleeding could be a sign of miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy. The brighter red the bleeding, the more significant it is."
"If you have bleeding and bad cramping similar to period cramps, this can be a sign of threatened miscarriage," says Manju Monga, MD. She is a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. "If this is coupled with sharp, lower abdominal pain, it may be a sign of ectopic pregnancy," a serious complication that occurs when the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, usually in the fallopian tubes.
What to do: "Call your doctor," Monga says. "Your doctor will likely do an ultrasound, an exam, and some blood work based on your symptoms." Though most spotting or light bleeding may not be a serious problem, "you don’t want to ignore it if it is associated with cramping, heavy bleeding, or abdominal pain."

2. Excessive Nausea and Vomiting

It's normal to have some nausea and vomiting during your first trimester. Most pregnant women go through that.
But if it's severe or makes you dehydrated, that's something to heed. If you can’t keep any water or fluids down for more than 12 hours, call your doctor.

Causes And Treatment Of Convulsion in Infants And Children....

Convulsions are also known as ‘fits’, ‘epileptic attacks’ or ‘seizures’. Essentially, they’re states of altered consciousness, which can vary in severity.

Causes

Convulsions happen because of sudden, abnormal electrical activity in the brain.
Febrile convulsions
Febrile convulsions are seizures that occur because of
which is a temperature higher than 38°C. High fevers might come with an infection. We don’t know why, but in these cases, the rapid rise in temperature causes an abnormal electrical discharge in the brain.
Febrile convulsions are pretty common, occurring in about 4% of children between the ages of six months and five years. Two-thirds of these children will only ever have one fit. Most will occur while the child is younger than three years old.
Children who have their first febrile convulsion before the age of one year have a higher risk of having recurrent febrile convulsions. This type of convulsion tends to run in families, and affects boys more often than girls.
Epilepsy is the term given to the condition where your child has more than one seizure, which isn't triggered by fever, and there’s an abnormal EEG. About 3% of children with febrile convulsions subsequently develop epilepsy (compared to 0.5% of all children). The risk of epilepsy is greater with previous abnormal neurological development, history of epilepsy in first-degree relatives, long febrile convulsions (lasting more than 10 minutes), and multiple convulsions during a single episode of fever.

8 Ways To Help You And Your Strong Willed Child..

1. Balance your authority with his independence:
Our goal as parents is to teach our children enough life skills so that they can manage one day on their own and be productive members of society. Strong willed children already have a strong dose of the independence they need to make it on their own and it should be recognized as a strength. Remember that many great people were strong willed and mischievous. It is a sign of good character, creativity and persistence.
Many times parents think that we need to subdue our children and always make them listen to what we say. This is not the case. We should cultivate a child’s independence. It does not have to be at the expense of maintaining our authority as parents in our homes.

It's Funny But Why Do Toddlers Really Bite And How Do You Respond To Them

Biting is a very common behavior among toddlers, which means there are a lot of concerned parents out there.  You are not alone.  The good news is that there is a lot that parents and caregivers can do to reduce and, ultimately, eliminate biting.

To set the stage for effectively addressing this challenge, avoid calling or thinking of your child as a “biter” and ask others not to use this term.  Labeling children can actually lead to them taking on the identity assigned to them, which can intensify biting behavior rather than eliminate it.

Children bite in order to cope with a challenge or fulfill a need.  For example, your child may be biting to express a strong feeling (like frustration), communicate a need for personal space (maybe another child is standing too close) or to satisfy a need for oral stimulation.  Trying your best to understand the underlying cause of the biting will help you develop an effective response.  This makes it more likely that you will be successful in eliminating the behavior.

28 Things No One Tells You About Parenting a Tween

Everyone is quick to offer pearls of wisdom for the baby years, and words of sympathy when that baby seemingly overnight turns into a teen … but no one really talks about what happens right before. Specifically, the tween years.
They’re an introduction to the teen years, a reminder to enjoy what’s left of childhood, and also a call to action — get it together mama because if you think your hands are full now…
As the mom of a 10-year-old girl, I’m currently navigating those murky tween waters. Some days, I struggle to stay afloat. Others, I don’t want it to end. Here’s what no one told me about the tween years:
1. Empty nest syndrome starts long before they move out. My kid is still here and some days I already miss her terribly.
2. They will make a bad choice and suddenly, you’ll be afraid for their future (trust me, it’s not that bad. We are all more than a single bad choice.).
3. You’ll wish you tried harder in school … middle school math is no joke. And now that you've got a middle or almost high-school aged kid, it feels like the joke is on you.
